Shohei Ohtani, born July 5, 1994 in Ōshū, Japan, is a right-handed pitcher, outfielder and designated hitter in Major League Baseball.
The first overall pick of the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters in 2012, he plays in Nippon Professional Baseball in 2013 to 2017. After being named best player in the Pacific League in 2016, Shohei Ohtani was placed on the transfer market for the Major League in 2018. The Japanese star signed with the Los Angeles Angels and became the team's rookie year of the American League, completion of a successful first season in the United States.
After two seasons marked by difficulties, between injuries and the Covid-19 pandemic, Shohei Ohtani had a historic 2021 season, breaking numerous records as as a player evolving as a pitcher and as a hitter at the same time. He was selected for the 2021 All-Star Game as a starter in both roles and then unanimously named best player in the American League at the end of the season. In 2023, he was again unanimously voted the best player in the American League, becoming the first player to be unanimously voted MVP twice. Following this season, he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers for 10 years.
